Council agrees in principle to reserve city lot across from City Hall for veterans memorial

Council member Kim Clements (speaker 4) proposed using the city-owned lot across from City Hall for a veterans memorial and said a local fundraiser organizer is willing to lead the effort and secure donated materials. Kim asked whether the council would allocate the property so the group could finalize plans.

"Brandon Barber's does a, veterans kind of fundraiser every year, and I talked to Ricky about doing a fundraiser for Eureka City to create a memorial for our veterans," Kim said. Multiple council members responded that the site is a good location and encouraged forming a committee to develop proposals, review design options (for example, a wall that could display names), and consider parking and maintenance needs.

Councilors emphasized they want proposals showing size and scope before committing full city resources. Several members said the city would track donations through its system and that the council would ultimately approve spending and the final design. Kim said she would contact volunteers to organize a committee and return with proposals at a future meeting.
