On March 17 the council approved renewal of the animal‑sheltering service agreement with Prairie Land Animal Welfare Center for a three‑year period. Staff said the first two years will maintain the current annual cost of $234,001.20, and that the third‑year cost will be negotiated before the second term ends. The agreement continues Prairie Land's responsibility for sheltering and transport while the Galesburg Police Department retains enforcement of animal‑related laws.
Mr. Hansen told council sufficient funds are budgeted and described the arrangement as a continuation of a multiyear transition. The council voted unanimously to approve the extension after a staff recommendation and limited discussion; clerk recorded six yes votes.
