Commission forwards York County recommendations on sign ordinance to borough council

The Red Lion Borough Planning Commission reviewed recommendations from the York County Planning Commission to update the borough's sign zoning ordinance and voted to forward the corrected draft to borough council.

Solicitor Mike Craley identified grammatical and typographical errors to be corrected, said Section A.1 contained common verbiage, and discussed whether banners should replace pole-sign language and whether advertising/mobile signs were treated consistently. Assistant Solicitor Sam Craley-Byerts noted editorial issues and reminded the commission that the ordinance could be amended later if enforcement problems arose. Commissioner Cindy Barley asked whether zoning staff could enforce the proposed wording; Zoning Officer Erick Sowers and Borough Manager Michelle Poole said they were comfortable enforcing the current proposed language. Commissioner Beth Nidam moved to send the ordinance recommendations to borough council with typographical corrections and the solicitors' recommendation; Barley seconded and the motion carried.
