Mayor lists July–August community events: Basketball with a Cop, National Night Out, Aug. 15 resource fair

The mayor also said National Night Out will coincide with Election Day in some areas and encouraged residents to "vote if you vote in that area, and then come over to National Night Out," describing an event with music and food from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at California and Woodward.
For families preparing for the school year, McDonald announced a back-to-school and community resource fair on Aug. 15 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Ernest T. Ford Field House (10 Pickens), sponsored by State Senator Stephanie Chang and the city; she provided a contact number, (313) 922-6949, for questions. The mayor said the fair will distribute backpacks, school supplies and household resources.
McDonald did not provide specific safety plans or vendor lists for the events during the update.
