Trappe council to ask state approval to accept Lakeside treated effluent into town lagoon

The Trappe Town Council voted Aug. 7 to send a letter to the Maryland Department of the Environment asking approval for the Lakeside development to send its treated effluent to Trappe's lagoon. Attorney Lyndsey Ryan explained Lakeside is in the start-up phase and currently unable to spray discharge; the developer has been trucking treated effluent to Hurlock for further processing but seeks approval to have Trappe accept the flow.
Council members and Superintendent Steve Callahan agreed that accepting the effluent into the town lagoon would allow Trappe to control flow and avoid possible issues with an influx of treated effluent. The council recorded that the quantity is below Lakeside's permitted 30,000 gallons per day cap. Commissioner Michael Sullivan moved to request MDE approval and the motion was unanimously approved.
