City staff recommended that the council leave retiree health reimbursement rates unchanged for 2026 while reviewing potential changes for 2027.
"We are recommending just to leave the rates the same exact the same as what they are this year," a staff presenter said, noting the city must make a 2.4% contribution into the North Carolina State Retirement plan for the coming year and outlining current counts of pre-65 and post-65 retirees eligible for reimbursement.
Council member Miss Pate moved to approve the staff recommendation and the motion was seconded; the council voted by voice to adopt the measure. Staff said Aetna's bid and benefit caps (citing reimbursements up to $675 per month for some plans and $100 per month post-65 in the presentation) informed the recommendation to maintain current rates for a year and revisit in 2027.
