Resident warns council that Chapel Hill Road congestion risks a serious crash

A Douglasville resident told the council it can take 21 minutes to leave her neighborhood onto Chapel Hill Road due to multiple driveways and fast traffic, urging reduced speed limits or driveway consolidations before someone is killed.
Resident Cindy Welch told the council she timed her exit from a neighborhood onto Chapel Hill Road and said it took 21 minutes because of multiple driveways, nearby businesses and high vehicle speeds. Welch urged the council to consider options including closing or consolidating driveways, lowering the speed limit from 45 to 35 mph, or conducting video observations of the location.
"When I got out onto Chapel Hill Road, it was 21 minutes," Welch said during the public-comment period, and warned, "I guarantee if something isn't done, somebody's gonna get killed there." Mayor Rochelle Robinson responded that the council would "turn it over to the experts," referring to the police department and traffic staff to review the concern and any preexisting traffic studies before the formal meeting vote or further action.
The council did not take immediate action during the work session but acknowledged the concern and signaled staff and the police department would follow up, and the matter could be placed on a future agenda for specific traffic-engineering recommendations.
