The Westfir City Council appointed Jara Mouracade to City Council Seat 1 at its July 7 meeting and administered her oath of office.
Mayor Richard Watson noted that "Ms. Mouracade, the Westfir Lodge owner, had a strong background in tourism and grant writing." Councilor Deretta Huey moved to appoint Mouracade; Councilor Linda M. Love seconded. The motion carried in the first recorded tally 3–0, and the oath was notarized by City Recorder Nicole Tritten.
Why it matters: The appointment fills a vacant seat and adds a council member with local tourism and grant experience at a time when the council is discussing tourism marketing and facility repairs. The council recorded no abstentions or no votes in the final record after the oath, and Mouracade participated in subsequent votes.
