Town updates: wastewater project progress, AMI rollout, beach nourishment appraisals and Town Hall/EOC nearing completion

Town Administrator Mark Aakhus provided multiple department and project updates at the March 12 meeting. He said all lift stations are complete and operational except the Bay Creek lift station, which remains pending equipment delivery; a temporary wastewater plant is operational and dredging is ongoing. The Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) rollout is underway with additional meter antennas being installed and staff participated in a customer portal demonstration.
Other departmental items included: Building Department report delivered by Code Enforcement Officer Morgan Viars (business license renewals due April 30, 2026); Fire Department ordered new CPR/AED equipment, hired part‑time firefighter Douglas Smyth, and recorded 221 training hours; Police Department statistics included 13,922 miles patrolled and 107 incidents/calls for service in February 2026 and noted 2,073 pounds of venison delivered to the Lowcountry Food Bank. Town Hall/EOC project remains on schedule for substantial completion March 24, 2026; a ribbon‑cutting will be planned.
