Colusa County continues literacy work as IAL grant sunsets; ALFA efforts transition locally

Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL) staff and literacy coordinator Stefani Silvas Santana and Communications Director Alissa Maas updated the board across several meetings about grant activities: story times, literacy kits and book distributions through partnerships (e.g., Ampla Health), Early Literacy Certification cohorts, and a community read‑along video project. In February staff characterized the IAL grant as a three‑year, $3.2 million grant and said IAL activities would transition to local And Literacy for All (ALFA) work going forward.
Board members commended staff for outreach efforts, book distribution and retention initiatives, and staff described next steps to keep children connected to reading resources. The board discussed sustaining the program post‑grant and leveraging local partnerships.
