Board greenlights Strong Workforce, CAEP MOU and Ag CTE grants; district says match available

The Chawanakee Unified School District board unanimously approved three grant- and program-related items on Sept. 10: a Strong Workforce Program application, a memorandum of understanding with State Center Community College District for California Adult Education Program (CAEP) funds, and the 2024-25 Agricultural Career Technical Education Incentive Grant.
Daniel Ching and Principal Rhonda Corippo told the board Chawanakee is eligible for "up to one million dollars in grant funds with a two- million-dollar match of funds," and that current district expenditures can serve as the match so "there will be no cash used out of district funds." The CAEP MOU, presented by CBO Melissa Kielpinski, specifies Chawanakee's allocation (not more than $138,063) will be released monthly over the 2024-25 fiscal year following State Center's receipt of funds; the board approved the MOU and grant submissions unanimously.
Trustees and staff said the grants will support CTE pathways including expanded offerings for 7th and 8th graders and continued funding of two teachers through the existing Strong Workforce allocation.
