Library staff announce Winter Wellness challenge, $5,000 donation and March author events

During staff comments the library's acting director (Shelly Alexander) announced the Winter Wellness learning challenge, running Dec. 1 through Jan. 14, which combines reading and wellness activities on a bingo card and awards prizes at different completion levels with a grand prize drawing for an iPad.
Alexander told the board the Friends of the North Las Vegas Library District received a $5,000 donation from a community member and the district used that gift to purchase three bamboo 3D printers for the upcoming makerspace. "Those printers were received about 2 weeks ago," Alexander said; staff training is planned in December with a January rollout and a dedication event to thank the donor.
Alexander also previewed an author visit in March featuring Dion Leonard, author of Finding Gobi, with a children's reading event March 5 at Alexander Library and a main event March 7 at the Aliante Library; Gobi the dog is expected to attend and there will be opportunities for Q&A and book signings.
