Baker & Taylor going out of business forces North Las Vegas libraries to eye new vendors

Shelly Alexander warned trustees that Baker & Taylor, the district's long-time full-service vendor for cataloging and shelf-ready processing, "will be going out of business as of January 2026" and is winding down operations now. Alexander said the district is reconciling final invoices and that while materials ordered in September appear either received or canceled, losing a full-service vendor is a "significant disruption" for the small district.
Staff are negotiating with Ingram and Brodart, which Alexander said are among the only remaining vendors that provide complete cataloging and MARC records for shelf-ready materials; however, Alexander said it may be spring 2026 before a replacement vendor is in place due to high national demand. In the interim, the district will allow patrons to access the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District collection via a cooperative agreement, maintain a linked Amazon account to buy paperback releases for in-branch use, and has discussed Brodart's McNaughton program as a limited interim source for new-release shelf-ready materials.
Alexander also said ebooks and eaudiobooks previously provided through Baker & Taylor will transition to OCLC's CloudLibrary on Dec. 10, with staff training scheduled for Dec. 4 and public marketing to follow in mid-December. The board heard this as an informational presentation; no formal action was taken.
