Board adopts updated Rodgers Ranch master plan; enterprise budget approved with one dissent

The Corning Union High School District Board of Trustees on Nov. 21 unanimously adopted an updated Rodgers Ranch Master Plan that maps agricultural education, production areas and a multi-year infrastructure timeline for the Rodgers property.

The board also approved a set of related items including purchase of an air compressor for ranch operations and a requested budget for student-run enterprise plans. The enterprise budget was approved 4–1; Board Member Cody Lamb cast the only recorded dissent, saying he had concerns about paying student managers and the overlap between stipends and enterprise funding. Board President Larry Glover presided over the vote.

Advisors and CTE staff told the board the plan ties classroom instruction more closely to hands-on work. CTE coordinator Emily Brown said the district has scheduled a pond-restoration meeting with a biologist and noted, "This will help us to determine what the next steps are." The plan lists phased projects from immediate infrastructure fixes through planting and expansion of production areas, and envisions Rodgers Ranch financial self-sufficiency by 2026.

Next steps include standing quarterly reports to the Rodgers Oversight Committee and a schedule to bring individual enterprise outcomes to the board. The board recorded formal approval of the updated master plan and instructed staff to implement the near-term actions identified in the plan.
