Shasta College representatives described a six-week TRIO Upward Bound summer program attended by 29 students, including concurrent Shasta College classes for several participants and a slate of workshops and field trips.
Patricia Esparza and Director Sue Huizinga detailed academic enrichment (math, chemistry, creative writing), college-concurrent classes and career-exploration activities. Several students spoke about their experiences; one student said, “This is a great program and opportunity. This has helped them each individually and it has been fun as well.” The Board applauded the students for presenting to the trustees.
CTE Coordinator Emily Brown also proposed a Student CTE Council representing each career pathway to provide student feedback on pathway planning and improvements. Brown described quarterly lunch meetings and named student pathway representatives for Medical, Culinary, Agriculture, Construction and other programs.
