Special Education and SELPA leadership described recruitment activity to close paraeducator and certificated vacancies and highlighted collaboration with behavioral health partners. Jessica Galloway Haney and Chuck Wayman updated the Board on planned wellness centers and an anticipated mental-health grant to place behavioral staff at district sites.
Program Specialist Veronica Sandoval introduced Worthy, a facility dog placed with Special Education to support student learning and social-emotional regulation; Worthy was presented as a long-term classroom support trained by Canine Companions. SELPA staff also described CAPTAIN participation and a one-year grant for autism professional training with hopes to extend the project.
