John lthurburn described proposed revisions to Board Policy BP 6146.10 (High School Graduation Requirements/Standards of Proficiency) and corresponding Board Operating Procedure exhibits. The changes are intended to provide flexibility for students who face circumstances that make completion of local add-on graduation requirements an undue barrier to timely graduation.
Board members discussed the edits, and staff made changes to BP 6146.10 and Exhibits A and B (Courses/Credits Authorized and Graduation Requirements). The policy and procedures were set for a second reading on Oct. 8, 2025. No vote was taken; this was the first reading of the policy revisions.
The board framed the change as a measure to ensure students with extenuating circumstances are not blocked from graduating on time by local requirements; staff will return with a revised document for formal consideration.
