Superintendent Michael West updated the board on staff activity and regional coordination, saying CCOE participated in the CSR 3 annual planning meeting and the Head Start Policy Council. West said the K12HSN meeting included discussions on the impact of artificial intelligence and that Alex Evans held a meeting earlier that day to begin development of a CCOE AI policy.
West reviewed several legislative items affecting local schools. He described SB 765 as a measure "aimed at addressing the teacher shortage by temporarily increasing the California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS) post-retirement earnings limit and waiving the 180-day waiting period for retired teachers to return to the classroom." He also noted AB 1224 as a pending bill to allow an authorized substitute teacher to serve in one assignment for up to 60 cumulative days. West also referenced the Footsteps to Brilliance (F2B) Executive Report and thanked the ALFA team for literacy outreach.
The board recorded these updates for its monthly superintendent’s report; no board action was taken on the legislative items during the meeting.
