Ranch operations and agriculture programs reviewed; board requests workshop

The Rodgers Ranch report at the Aug. 8 meeting highlighted summer activity and operational concerns. Ranch Manager Tony Rosiles said student worker participation had been uneven and identified commodity price pressure as a financial concern: “The prices of walnuts are a concern and the district has invested a lot already.” Trustees discussed setting clearer expectations for paid student workers and agreed to discuss the matter further at a Rodgers Ranch committee meeting.
The board also reviewed interagency MOUs to support programs that use ranch or agricultural pathways—agreements with Red Bluff JUHSD for speech and language services and with Tehama County Department of Education for Friday Night Live chapters at Corning and Centennial. The board asked staff to add a future workshop devoted to the school farm to an agendas list so trustees and staff can plan program and capital decisions.
Board members asked that facilities planning account for ranch needs and that staff continue to monitor the financial outlook for the ranch enterprise.
