Council member Amy moved to amend the committee motion to add a priority action to implement the new city brand under Goal 4 (government accountability). She said the brand work '2takes more than just making a logo' and that she wanted the city to continue pushing implementation into public-facing programs such as Clock Tower Landing and arts initiatives.
Opponents, including City Manager Lori Curtis Luther and other council members, argued that the heavy lifting of creating the brand was complete and that strategic goals should focus on high-level policy rather than operational steps. "The heavy lifting with this item initially was the creation of the new brand," Lori (as introduced by the mayor) said, adding that implementation has generally been treated as an operational item. The amendment failed by a hand vote: five in favor, seven opposed.
Council members who supported the amendment said continued visible use of the brand (merchandise, events) would help adoption; opponents said staff would continue implementation work regardless of whether the brief language appears in the strategic goals.
