Arts & Recreation Foundation reports $1.6M in grants to city programs, launches endowment

Sonia, representing the Arts & Recreation Foundation of Overland Park (ARFOP), delivered the foundation's annual report and summarized the organization's grants and operations. "So total grants last year, about 1,600,000," she said, adding that about 98% of that funding went back to city programs.
Sonia listed several city projects and grants supported by ARFOP: a $50,000 grant toward the Beebe Park sculpture, support for art exhibits at community centers, the final installment of a grant for the Longhouse Visitor Center, and a $425,000 investment the foundation plans to grant back to the city for Greenhouse Number 3. She also noted operational support grants of $75,000 to the Arboretum and $125,000 to Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead and described a $23,005.65 grant to KC Urban Advantage to support summer field trips.
Sonia said the foundation has launched an endowment to honor past leader Vicky Lilly and has received "a little over $211,000" toward that fund so far. She described the foundation's three "friends" groups and the signature events that together drew more than 55,000 attendees last year.
Committee members thanked the foundation for its support and asked no further questions. The foundation indicated it is searching for new office space and is continuing strategic planning work.
