Police report: KU fellow onboard, co-responder added; training center construction on track

On the department's strategic plan and facilities, the official said the plan-at-a-glance has been received and that major tenets are expected to be approved in late summer with implementation planned for January 2027. He also gave an update on the police training center project, saying that most slabs have been poured, site grading is nearly complete, steel erection is underway in classroom areas and "the work is expected to continue through July and still, on track to be completed summer of 20 27."
The fellow program was described as a public administration professional-staff track; the department said it tries to align projects to a fellow's career interests, noting previous fellows have worked on IT and behavioral-health-related projects.
Committee members asked whether the training range is 50 yards and which KU program the fellow came from; the official confirmed the fellow is in a public administration track and said the department will tailor assignments to his career path.
