Trustees advanced the Corning Union High School shop modernization as part of capital work supported by the newly approved master plan and approved a construction management contract for district construction oversight.
Related construction procurement moved forward after a June bidding process for parking lot improvements and a softball field: the low responsible bidder was Randy Hill Construction at $1,840,000. At a June 25 special meeting attendees reviewed cost-per-square-foot estimates and discussed whether to modernize versus new construction. The board later approved moving ahead with contracts and asked consulting construction manager Zane Schreder to work with NMR on finalized designs and cost controls.
Board members discussed project delivery timing, minimizing disruption to students during construction, and the potential impact of adding classrooms on state funding eligibility. The board also directed district staff to coordinate with the architect and construction manager on phasing and grant implications prior to construction mobilization.
