Dr. Jessica Kubek introduced herself to the Town of Cecilton Mayor and Council on June 15 as the incoming principal of Cecilton Elementary School, effective July 1. Kim Morris, the school’s Community School Advisor, told council members that the Maryland Food Bank’s Mobile Food Pantry is no longer being provided to the school because of budget cuts and "various other factors." Morris said the school will continue to support families through a monthly "Food on the Go" distribution (second Monday each month, 4–6 p.m.), a Tigers Care Den stocked with school supplies, hygiene items and canned goods, and an "Adopt a Shelf" initiative to restock the pantry.
Morris also described student supports planned for the coming year, including Home Wellness gifts to aid student mental-health needs and a Reading Buddies program with the public library that pairs volunteers with students for one hour a week over a 10‑week period. The presentation did not include a financial breakdown for the substitute food program; Morris identified the loss of the Mobile Food Pantry as resulting from Maryland Food Bank budget changes and other unspecified factors.
