Members of the Tri County Shrine Club and a public commenter told the council they oppose the planned annexation of the club property at 701 Potters Lane, saying members were not given notice or the opportunity to purchase the property. Ted Carr said club members had repeatedly asked to buy the site and that the Elks Club’s potential purchase collapsed after a $50,000 down payment was reportedly lost in the process.
Staff described the annexation request as a petition received March 25 for a contiguous 7.14-acre tract and explained that, upon annexation, the property would be zoned R3 with specific development restrictions in Exhibit C and would revert to R2 if the developer failed to meet timelines. The staff presentation noted that the town was not aware of active litigation tied to the parcel and that annexation would not affect any closing.
After the presentation and public comment, a staff member moved to table the ordinance and the motion was seconded by Councilwoman Schiller. The motion passed with six votes in favor and one abstention; the council did not conduct a final vote on the ordinance at the May 20 meeting.
