The Notus City Council voted on Nov. 17 to deny Syringa Broadband's request for a utility easement and instructed the city attorney to send a stop-work order after the company began installing cable without right-of-way permits on city property. Councilman Devin Krasowski made the motion to deny the proposal and Rob Hartsock seconded; the motion passed on a roll-call vote (Krasowski; yes, Hartsock; yes, Ahlborn; yes, Connor; yes).
Mayor David Porterfield reported that Syringa sought to place an equipment cabinet on the southeast corner of the city-owned lot at Fargo and 1st Street. The council recorded concern about unpermitted work and directed City Attorney Ben Layman to pursue enforcement until Syringa follows the proper permitting channels.
