Parks department takes charge of Fairview Cemetery; draft rules and sexton named

The Park and Tree Board learned that responsibility for Fairview Cemetery has moved to Parks and Recreation and that the city recently hired a part-time sexton, Marcos Barbosa, to manage day-to-day work approximately 20 hours per week.
"The parks department is now, in charge of the actual cemetery," Chair said, and staff described a draft set of cemetery rules compiled with input from nearby jurisdictions. Chair said the city will pursue a resolution rather than an ordinance to formalize the rules; existing plantings and benches will generally be grandfathered unless they interfere with maintenance or safety.
