Wood Acres Park design advances; city staff estimates ~$400,000 and targets construction this year

Matt Dunnegan, presenting for the parks team, reviewed the Wood Acres Park concept, explaining the design aim to keep the site largely natural with nonvehicular access and to connect to the Petrie Creek Greenway. The concept includes a concrete path from Claremont Terrace, a pedestrian bridge and native landscaping with 'cookie pavers' and black locust palisades for boardwalk features.
Dunnegan said the project estimate is approximately $400,000. The design is nearing 90% and the city plans to submit final design at the end of the month, move to bid in July and begin construction in September with completion targeted by year end. He noted that changes in EPD stream buffer rules for pedestrian bridges removed the need for a buffer variance and that the team plans to vegetate slopes and use wetland plantings to stabilize disturbed areas.
Council members asked about slope stabilization and longevity of proposed materials; staff said the 'cookie pavers' are kiln‑dried and expected to last 15–20 years and that the project will include wetland plantings to stabilize banks. The item remains on schedule to move to design review and construction.
