Chamblee honors local volunteers and marks awareness months at April 21 council meeting

Mayor called forward members of the Lambda Epsilon Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha for a proclamation marking 50 years of service to Chamblee, citing holiday meal programs, weekend meal packs and scholarships for local students. Council then invited chapter members for a group photograph at the dais.
Rich D'Agostino, chair of The Myositis Association, read a proclamation designating May 2026 as Myositis Awareness Month in Chamblee and urged residents to learn about the condition and support research. "This joins proclamations from governor Kemp's office and the Georgia House of Representatives," D'Agostino said, urging broader recognition to boost research and clinical trials.
City staff also announced Manuel Barcinas as the 2026 Calidoscope Award bronze winner for best impact support, praising his role connecting Spanish‑speaking residents to city initiatives. The community engagement director presented certificates to the 22 graduates of Chamblee 101, a long‑running civic education program that runs roughly 11 weeks and aims to deepen resident engagement.
The recognitions packet was presented without formal votes; council members offered brief congratulations and the meeting moved on to ordinance and budget business.
