The Village of Rockdale Board approved the 2025 budget for Cambridge Fire & EMS and related actions during its March 17, 2025 meeting at the Robert M. Smithback Community Center. The board voted 5-0 to adopt the budget after a motion by Village Board President Alicia Hynes, seconded by Joe Leto.
The board also approved a payment of $4,532.32 to Cambridge Fire & EMS intended to cover costs resulting from the Town of Oakland’s recusal from the Fire Commission District. The payment motion was made by Sarah Halvorson and seconded by Sam Pelot and carried 5-0. Separately, the board approved a First Amendment to the Joint Fire & Emergency Medical Services Agreement (originally dated August 2018); the amendment was approved on a motion by Breah Klemp, seconded by Sarah Halvorson, and carried 5-0.
After those votes, the board convened a closed session under statutory authority 19.85(1)(e) to deliberate or negotiate purchase of public properties or other specified bargaining matters related to Fire and EMS services; the motion to enter closed session passed 5-0 on a motion by Joe Leto and second by Breah Klemp. The board later reconvened in open session by motion of Klemp, seconded by Halvorson, carried 5-0.
The actions consolidate Rockdale’s continued participation in regional Fire & EMS arrangements and record a specific intergovernmental payment tied to the Town of Oakland’s recusal. The minutes do not record further negotiation outcomes from the closed session.
