Council OKs emergency purchase of six Motorola radios for police

Sylvania City Council on March 16 approved an emergency ordinance to buy six Motorola APX N50 portable radios for the Sylvania Police Department, authorizing $27,131.58 to be appropriated from the city’s 401 account. City staff said the purchase is necessary to meet a countywide Project 25 compliance requirement that took effect this year.
Shaw, a city staff member presenting the request, said, “These are 6 new APX n 50, from Motorola Solutions. The total cost for the 6 radios is $27,131.58.” Councilmember Westfall introduced the ordinance and the measure passed by voice vote.
The staff presentation noted that several older radios had been disposed of at the end of last year when the county required P25 compliance; the six new units will replenish the department’s portable radios. Chief Miller was described in the discussion as comfortable with the purchase and the remaining radios on hand.
