City Manager Michael Johnson said he distributed packets to council and the mayor for the police chief vacancy and asked council to schedule a special meeting to select candidates for interview. Johnson said the hiring committee needs at least four council members present and that the current police chief is expected to retire in mid-to-late July, which requires an expedited process.
“ The police chief's going to retire, I think July 20th, so we have to move relatively quickly,” Johnson said. Council discussed scheduling logistics and agreed to coordinate availability so the committee can meet to review applications, go into executive session to select interviewees and then hold separate interview sessions as needed.
