City Manager Michael Johnson provided multiple Parks and Recreation updates, from a pool slide warranty to tennis-court surface concerns and vandalism in parks.
Johnson said the manufacturer "stated it would honor its warranty if the slide is retrofitted," and city staff are seeking a fabricator and consulting the Ohio Department of Health about whether the pool can open before the retrofit. He said tennis-court repairs will be reviewed in a meeting on Friday with the contractor who worked on the surface last year. Johnson reported the city collected 53.8 tons of bulk pickup material, costing $2,700 in disposal and $1,700 in overtime. He also said vandalism in park restrooms and to picnic tables remains a concern and that staff are seeking estimates for rekeying restroom doors so police can lock them at night.
Councilors discussed summer-camp staffing, PNC grant funding used previously for camps, and the difficulty of running camps without an on-staff parks director. No motions or votes were taken on these operational items during the May 5 meeting.
