City Manager Michael Johnson told council that the Ohio Department of Health requires any slide at a public pool to pass inspection for the facility to receive an overall pool inspection. The manager said one option was to remove the slide — reported in the meeting to cost about $50,000 — so the pool could open after Memorial Day; the alternative would be to delay opening while the slide issue is fixed.
Councilmember Dave Albaugh and others said removal was preferable. Mr. McManamon moved to give the city manager permission to remove the slide; Mr. Albaugh seconded. A roll call was recorded as "all ayes" and the motion carried. Johnson said crews could remove the slide in a couple of days and would proceed.
