Council approves plan to add stop control at Logan and Fifth after seven recent crashes

Engineering Director Mike Dolak told the council the city evaluated the Logan and Fifth Street intersection after an accident March 23 and found crash history, speed and volumes support installing stop control.
"In the last three years, there's been seven crashes at that intersection, and it looks like a stop control would improve that," Dolak said. He said the city has issued a small plan request for quotes on sign installation and expects sign manufacturing and installation to take roughly 30 to 60 days once a quote is accepted; he estimated the work could cost approximately $4,000 to $6,000.
Council discussed timing and the need for appropriate advance signage and flags to notify drivers of the new control. Dolak said paving and work by ODOT on State Route 7 may constrain schedules but that the city would try to have the stop control in place before the next school year.
No formal ordinance or final funding appropriation was adopted at the meeting; council directed the engineering department to obtain quotes and proceed with procurement and installation steps.
