Council praises inclusive playground upgrades; Patton presses for surface change and buffering standards referral follow-up

Council members highlighted recent upgrades at Every Child's Playground. Council Member Mary Berges said she was enthusiastic about the replacement of a gravity rail with zip lines and the addition of inclusive swings; Mayor Bryan Jensen confirmed the swings were installed and new areas opened on Friday and said zip lines (two racing lines and an inclusive zip line) were being installed.
Council Member Michelle Patton praised the additions but urged installing a different surface in one older playground area to improve accessibility and durability. Patton said she had compiled information related to a referral to the Planning Department intended to strengthen buffering standards where different zoning districts abut; Planning Coordinator Pam Fechter said the March Planning Commission agenda was already set and that further administrative discussion would be needed before placing the referral on a future agenda.
