Avon Council adopts walking-path rules, park improvements and accepts NOPEC grant; several items moved forward

Council of the City of Avon on March 9, 2026 adopted three ordinances and moved other items to future consideration.
Ordinance No. 14-26, amending Section 660.05 of the codified ordinances to set responsibilities for adjacent property owners and occupiers regarding the city’s walking paths and trails, was amended and adopted after a recorded vote of six "yes" and zero "no" votes. The Chair declared the motion passed. Council also suspended the rules and adopted Ordinance No. 18-26 to amend the special use permit for Veterans Memorial Park at 3701 Veterans Memorial Parkway to include additional improvements; that motion passed unanimously. Separately, Council suspended the rules and adopted Ordinance No. 22-26 authorizing the Mayor to accept Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) Energized Community Grant(s); the vote was unanimous.
Other business included a second reading of Ordinance No. 16-26 to create an Avon Community Improvement Corporation (CIC) and first readings and public-hearing dates set for Ordinances No. 19-26 and 20-26 (planning and zoning amendments). A resident public comment raised sewer-connection and traffic-safety concerns on Colorado Avenue; Mayor Bryan Jensen and City Engineer Ryan Cummins explained the City’s limited jurisdiction over ODOT-controlled roads and outlined next steps to coordinate with the state.
