The Trumbull Finance Committee on July 27 voted unanimously to forward amended year-end supplemental appropriations totaling $770,469 to the full Town Council.
Director of Finance Maria Pires outlined the drivers of the requested supplementals: overtime for snow removal tied to weekend storms in mid-December, late December and mid-January; higher program-supplies costs for salt and plow repairs; and both emergency and routine tree-warden work following a summer microburst. The original supplemental request totaled $829,409 before a $58,940 intra-department reduction to the BOE interest line.
Committee member Richard Wolf moved to reduce the total supplemental request by $58,940 through transfers within the BOE budget; the motion, seconded by Bill Mecca, carried unanimously. After the amendment, Chair Nicole Satin moved to pass the resolution as amended "without recommendation," and the committee recorded unanimous approval.
The minutes attach a line-item schedule showing the original allocations: Snow Removal salaries-OT $253,385 and program supplies $302,561 (combined $555,946); Tree Warden program expenses $57,650 and emergency services $43,873 (combined $101,523); and debt-service interest lines (BOE interest $58,940; town interest $113,000) totaling $171,940. The committee directed Finance to obtain further documentation from Public Works and the Tree Warden explaining account overages, including salt purchases and addresses for routine tree work.
