Mayor Grove introduced Blaine Lewis as Alliance's new Safety Service Director during the council's April 20 meeting and announced that Mike Dreger had assumed the Director of Utilities position.
Lewis thanked the mayor and outlined his priorities for the role, stressing connection with the community and basic principles of conduct. "His main objective is to honor the history of Alliance and embrace changes that shape the future. He believes progress is driven by people who feel connected, respected and inspired. His core values are honesty, respect and a willingness to help," Lewis said.
Lewis also addressed the set of five ordinances before council, telling members that administration negotiators sought to keep wages in line with inflation and to treat employees equally; he encouraged council support for the contracts. Councilwoman Sheila Cherry congratulated Lewis and asked whether the Auditor's office had been consulted about the 8% figure referenced in wage negotiations; Lewis answered yes.
