Pine County approves $1,000 letter of support for ECEs BEAD broadband application

Dennis Rice, broadband manager at East Central Energy (ECE), asked the Pine County Board for a letter of support and a small county contribution to strengthen ECEs application for the BEAD/BEED broadband deployment grant. Rice said ECE plans to use its fiber-to-the-home design to target the countys remaining eligible locations: "we're looking to wrap up the remaining 2,631 eligible locations in Pine County," he said.
Commissioners asked how eligibility is determined. Rice explained the BEAD/DEED eligibility is tied to FCC Fabric data that ISPs report; locations under the 100 by 20 Mbps threshold are considered eligible. Chair (speaker 2) moved and the board voted to provide a letter of support and up to $1,000 in financial contribution to ECE; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Rice thanked the board on behalf of ECE and said the proposed application is scheduled for submission in mid-April.
