Irene, district finance staff, told the board that the food-service program currently has about "$300,000 in the bank" but warned that costs of labor and food are higher than typical reimbursements. She said, "Last year, we spent 450,000 from the bank. I think this year could be similar." The board approved the 2627 food-service budget in a voice vote (motion by Riley, second by Savannah).
Trustees discussed how free-meal policies simplify bookkeeping but do not adjust reimbursements to market cost changes; staff said Michigan and federal reimbursements currently support free meals but could change. Board members asked staff to monitor the program and report back if transfers to the general fund become necessary.
