Fairview Park council voted March 2 to suspend the usual three-readings requirement and pass two emergency resolutions backing federal funding requests for the city’s police and fire station infrastructure upgrade project.
Council moved quickly because application windows were imminent. Administration told council one congressional application was due the following Monday and another on March 30; a community project funding application to the U.S. House was due that same week. Councilwoman Greenfield moved to suspend charter and council rules to permit emergency passage; after brief questions about why the items were brought forward without committee review, staff explained the tight deadlines. "This is for the community project funding, and this application is due on Friday," an administration representative said when asked about the timeline. Council passed Resolution 26-03 and Resolution 26-04 unanimously and asked administration to send the proposed funding amount to council once determined.
Council asked staff to follow up with more detail about the dollar amount they will request and to share supporting materials; administration said it is still evaluating what comparable communities received and will determine an appropriate ask before filing the applications.
