Council presses for consistent vendor-spacing enforcement after Juneteenth permit confusion

Council members raised concerns about a letter received by the Juneteenth Committee that limited vendors to one side of the street. Councilman Mayo said he had observed vendors on both sides during First Friday events and asked that enforcement be consistent. Fire Chief Joe Ribar said the Ohio Revised Code standard is 20 feet for a fire lane, though the city sometimes permits a 15-foot clearance in narrow areas to allow passage for emergency vehicles.
"The Ohio Revised Code is 20 feet," Chief Ribar said. Councilmembers asked staff to circulate a clarifying or corrective letter to the Juneteenth organizers and to ensure the same standards are applied to other events.
