Council ratifies three‑year AFSCME contract and declares emergency

Law Director Costa Mastros recommended council address the AFSCME contract after members reviewed an executive‑summary; the item was tabled early in the meeting so council could consult labor counsel if needed. Later, Councilman McManamon moved to untable Ordinance No. 2026‑46; the motion carried and, after no public comment, McManamon called the question. Council voted by roll call (all ayes) to adopt the ordinance and the measure was declared an emergency.
The ordinance ratifies a three‑year wage and benefit agreement between the City and Local 2015 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). Mayor Petrella declared the ordinance adopted and it will take effect upon her signature. Council had discussed using executive session earlier if members wanted to confer with labor counsel prior to final action.
