Rowlett council hears economic development update and endorses exploring new staff capacity

"But I think we need 0.333 person that is an economic development director role," the chair said while urging the council to discuss adding a third ED position in the next budget cycle. Staff responded that the city "certainly can start filling these positions," but emphasized that director-level roles require long-term funding commitments. Councilmembers urged continued professional development and regional engagement to support recruitment and site-selection work.
Council asked staff to provide specific metrics and occupancy data on large projects so members can evaluate hiring and incentive decisions during the next budget cycle. Staff agreed to return with lease/occupancy figures and follow-up analysis on ROI and staffing scenarios.
