Commissioners press staff on AI use in proposals and allowable expenses for grants

Representative Jordan told the commission she was "disappointed in how much AI was used to generate these project proposals" and urged applicants not to rely on AI-generated materials in future submissions. Jordan said she reviewed every proposal and found extensive duplication of AI-generated language across many applications.
Members also raised concerns about allowable expenses, including paying participants to attend trainings or funding out-of-state contracts. Chair Albright and other commissioners noted a subcommittee (Representative Jordan, Representative Scrabba, Senator McEwen, Commissioner Beeman and Chair Albright) was appointed at the June meeting to examine allowable expenses; members asked staff and the subcommittee to clarify which expenditures should be permitted under LCCMR policy.
