Jeremy Drew of Resource Concepts, Inc. told the committee the BLM’s Dec. 22 Record of Decision for the Sage Grouse Resource Management Plan Update made notable mapping and allocation changes that affect planned maintenance areas and utility corridors.
Drew said the ROD removed some historic lek mappings, reinstated habitat in planned maintenance areas after smoothing procedures and redesignated utility corridors. He said many energy projects remain held up at the Department of the Interior level. Drew also reported that White Pine Pumped Storage received a one-year extension to complete hydrogeologic tests and had requested a truncated NEPA process in spring 2027. He recommended county correspondence on the RMP update and suggested making the topic a future agenda item for the committee.
Chairman Odgers and members discussed basin prioritization for White Pine County to work with the Desert Research Institute on future water-use forecasting, with Steptoe Valley, Spring Valley, Snake Valley and White River Valley mentioned as priorities.
