NDOW reports monitoring, canceled derby and recent collaring of pronghorn and deer

Moira Kolada of the Nevada Department of Wildlife briefed the committee on Jan. 20 about recent wildlife monitoring efforts and an event cancellation.
Kolada said the county fishing derby was canceled because of unseasonably warm weather and that NDOW had detected PD, a fungus associated with white-nose syndrome in bats, at Lake Mead and would continue statewide monitoring. She described recent captures and GPS collaring of pronghorn: "They had captured some antelope as follows: 30 head south of Hwy 50 in areas 131, 132, 143; 20 head in area 10, and in areas 104, 108, 102, and 109; and 20 head in area 121," the minutes state, and noted collars were also placed on some deer and fawns to monitor movement near areas of anticipated development.
Kolada told the committee that locally sage-grouse lek counts were downward trending or stable and discussed triggers such as drought and habitat decoupling that could negatively affect lek populations.
