Constellation tax bill exceeded agreement cap, reducing levy payouts to some taxing districts, finance committee hears

Dee Rentmeister, County Administrator, told the DeWitt County Finance Committee that this is the first year of a seven-year agreement under which the Constellation tax bill "went over the maximum amount per the agreement," which meant a few taxing districts did not receive their full levy requests. Rentmeister said one affected entity was the county ambulance district and that there are three more tax years remaining under the agreement.
Rentmeister characterized the effect as "similar to an abatement" and said she believes reductions could recur in subsequent years, potentially affecting additional taxing districts. The committee discussed what those shortfalls mean for the affected districts but did not take formal action at the May 19 meeting.
