McGill council weighs volunteer poison use and county-approved weed spraying at parks

Stacy Laird, listed in the meeting attendance as a business representative, told the council that "there is a private citizen who has offered to go to the McGill ballpark and put poison in each one of the holes created by the rodents." Council members said they were unsure whether volunteers are permitted to place poison on public property under White Pine County rules and asked that the resident complete a volunteer form before any action. Council members also directed staff to contact county vendors and other entities for written quotes to both eliminate rodents and spray parks for broadleaf and other invasive weeds.
The council did not adopt a formal eradication plan at the meeting; it recorded the problem, requested volunteer paperwork, and pursued cost estimates and county guidance before authorizing treatment. The ballpark remains the top-priority site noted by members during discussion.
